RIDOT Survey Section

West Bay Bike Path

Rivet Point Section, West Warwick Another section of the old Railroad bed is transformed into a Bike Path

At River Point in West Warwick work is now underway. The new section is expected to open August, 2000.

A large jpg of the area map here. (5+meg Quad).

This is the second West Bay section with two more soon to follow. Many State and Town Agencies have pitched in in an effort to bring the people of Rhode Island a fun, healthful and inexpensive family experience along the same path taken years ago by the New York New Haven trains.

Establishing grades and construction path Late in the Fall of 1999 we began. The first step is to establish the proposed centerline and mark out clearing limits. Here are side stakes at 100 foot intervals for clearing and rough grade. This section is very straight. It has one long slow curve at the North end and some traffic saftey slow-down squiggles at the intersections.

Taking down a hump .There was some excavation but most of the bed is much the same, grade and alignment wise, as it was for the trains.

Ready for paving .The finishing touches..Finished Product . ..and the finished product.
